SAHEL SOLIDARITE is a national Non-Governmental Organization that was established in 1973 and officially registered under the no. 20/IS/DGI/DAF dated 09 May 1979. It was created by an interdenominational group of Muslims, Protestants and Catholics who felt the need to assist destitute communities soon to extinct in the Burkina be Sahel. It's a non-profit NGO.

1- Mission

SAHEL SOLIDARITE has as mission to contribute in building capacity for peasant farmers and marginalized specific groups, for them to take care of their own development.

 

2- Goal

  • Contribute to poverty reduction in Burkina Faso in the framework of the sustainable human development.

 

3- Objectives

  • Reinforced organizational and management capacities for peasant farmers and for marginalized groups in urban area.
  • Reinforced planning capacities for the target groups in their activities and initiatives.
  • Women empowerment.

6- Organisation

SAHEL SOLIDARITE is made up of decision-making and technical execution bodies which are as follows:

6.1- Decision-makings bodies

  • 6.1.1- General Assembly (GA )

It's the supreme body of SAHEL SOLIDARITE. It's responsible for elaborating the overall policy as well as cooperation agreements with public authorities and other developmental partners. The general Assembly meet in ordinary session every year. It elects within itself an Executive Committee composed of 9 members including 2 auditors.

  • 6.1.2- The Executive Committee (EC)

The EC is in charge of implementing decisions made by the general assembly between 2 ordinary sessions. The EC is made up of the following members:

  • A President
  • A Vice-President
  • A Secretary General
  • A Deputy Secretary General
  • A General Treasurer
  • A Deputy General Treasurer
  • A Secretary in charge of Information
  • Two Auditors

The EC meet in ordinary session at least every quarterly.

 

  • 6.1.3- The Management Council

A Management Committee designated by the EC is responsible for monitoring and advising in the management of Sahel Solidarité's on-field programmes and projects. It's made up of the following members:

  • 2 representatives from Sahel Solidarité
  • 2 representatives from financial partners
  • 2 external resource persons

The Management Committee meet in ordinary session at least once every quarterly.

6.2- Technical execution body

It's in charge of the daily administration and management of Sahel Solidarité's on-field programmes. It's head by the President of Sahel Solidarité and is made up of the following services:

  • The Programme Management
  • The Projects National Coordination
  • The Rural Development Unit
  • The Female Promotion unit
  • The accounting and financial service
  • The Project areas
  • Female centres
